Xiangshan, also known as Laoxiangshan, is named after the toon trees abound on the mountain, spanning the three counties and cities of Gaoming, Gaoyao and Xinxing. The main peak “Tan Ding” is 699 meters above sea level, which is Gaoming’s second highest mountain. The Heshui Alsophila Natural Reserve in Gaoming District of Foshan City is located in the Laoxiangshan Forest Park. Heshui Alsophila spinulosa Nature Reserve is located in Heshui Town, an old revolutionary district in Gaoming. With a total area of 1038 hectares, it is a forest area that has not been developed in the past 200 years. According to experts from the School of Earth and Environment of Sun Yat-sen University, there are 7 nationally protected rare and endangered animals and plants in the reserve, of which Alsophila spinulosa is the first-level national key protected rare and endangered plant. Alsophila spinulosa is the “moon tree” in folk myths and legends. It became the “ruler” on the earth’s land at the same time as the dinosaurs. Also known as tree fern, Alsophila spinulosa can reach 8 meters in height. Because it is the only remaining woody fern and is extremely precious, it is listed as a key protected plant by the state. From the appearance, Alsophila spinulosa is somewhat like a coconut tree. Its trunk is cylindrical, upright and upright. There are many large and long feather-like compound leaves on the top of the tree, hanging in all directions. If you turn its leaves over, Many sporangia clusters can be seen on the back. Many spores grow in the sporangia. Alsophila spinulosa has no flowers, and of course it does not bear fruit. Without seeds, it relies on these spores to multiply its offspring. Alsophila spinulosa has extremely high protection value and is a precious natural and cultural heritage of mankind. The Heshui Alsophila Natural Reserve has a beautiful ecological environment. The blue sky, clear water and green mountains without traces of artificial carvings provide a good growth environment for the rare plant Alsophila spinulosa. At present, more than 4,000 Alsophila spinulans have been found in the nature reserve, of which the highest growth is about 3 meters. The growth of Alsophila spinulus populations is rare in South China. In April 1998, Professor Qin Chaofeng from Sun Yat-Sen University visited Lutian and found that there are 7 species of rare and endangered animals and plants under national protection in the reserve, of which Alsophila spinulosa is a national first-level key protected rare and endangered plant, which became the earth in the same era as the dinosaurs. The “ruler” on the land can finally lift the mystery called the “Moon Tree”. Alsophila spinulosa only likes to grow on the edge of a humid and warm mountain. It is not a continuous forest. Also it does not bear fruit. It has no seeds. It only reproduces by spores. That is, the old leaves of the old Cylindross tree will be smaller than mung beans every year. When the spores are mature, the spores will detach from the leaves and breed wherever it is blown by the wind. It grows very slowly, and the stem grows to a height of more than 1 meter, which takes hundreds of years. More than 4,000 Alsophila spinulosa have been discovered in the reserve. Among them, the highest-growing tree king is 3 meters high, and the growth of Alsophila spinulosa population is rare in South China. The Alsophila spinulosa in the Lutian at the western foot of Laoxiang Mountain has been praised by the relevant authorities as “the Alsophila spinulosa community with the largest number of also found in southern China and the best growth and reproduction status”. The discovery of Alsophila sinensis has extremely high scientific research value for the study of ancient climate and plant formation and the geographical distribution of plants. It is listed as a rare and endangered plant under the national first-class protection. In the reserve, there are more than 1,000 kinds of precious animals and plants such as pythons, pangolins, owls, civet cats, wild boars, Agarwood, Morinda officinalis, and rosette fern. The ecological environment here is beautiful, the blue sky, clear water, and green mountains without traces of artificial carvings provide a good growth environment for the rare plant Alsophila spinulosa. Come here to bathe in the forest and breathe oxygen in your lungs, which can make you feel relaxed and happy.
